• Zoek schaduw wanneer mogelijk

Madecassoside, also known as Gota Kola, is an active skin care ingredient derived from the plant Centella asiatica, a medicinal plant that has been used for over 2000 years in India and in Ayurvedic medicine. It has been used by many cultures for its curative properties.
In clinical studies, madecassoside has demonstrated skin healing as well as anti-aging properties in skin. It’s thought that it works in several ways including:
Collagen is one of the major components of the skin dermis. Collagen I plays an important role in wound healing and collagen III is produced by fibroblasts prior to the synthesis of collagen I. Both Collagen I and III are integral components of skin.
Some studies also suggest that madecassoside may be beneficial in the treatment of psoriasis, most probably via its anti-inflammatory action.
Madecassoside may be considered as a useful addition to your skin care regimen either to stimulate wound healing after surgical procedures or to increase collagen synthesis in aging skin. Here are some products to consider:
La Roche Posay Redermic Normal/Combination Skin or Dry Skin – reinforces cutaneous support
La Roche Posay Redermic Eyes – specially formulate to reinforce cutaneous support around the delicate eye area
La Roche Posay Cicaplast – speeds the skin’s recovery process after chemical peels or to treat flaking and chapped skin.

If you have oily or combination skin, you know how annoying it can be to experience the ‘shine’ a few hours after cleansing your face.
Despite using toners, facial wipes and other absorbents, a few hours later, it’s time to powder or wipe again. And many products contain alcohol, which work fine initially, but then leave you coping with dry or irritated skin instead!
There’s a new product called Clarex Oil Control Gel. Clarex is a cosmeceutical that uses new technology to absorb facial oil. It contains Polybibe, an acrylate copolymer, with fine micro particles. These particles act like sponges to absorb facial oil as soon as it’s produced. They work continuously, absorbing up to twenty times their own volume of facial oil (sebum). The best part is that the formulation is invisible so you won’t see it on your skin.
In clinical trials, Clarex reduced oiliness by 51% for up to 8 hours. So you can apply it in the morning and go, assured that your skin will feel clean and appear matte all day long.
Acohol free and non-comedogenic, Clarex Oil Control Gel is a great solution for tackling the shine associated with oily skin.

Most of us recognize that it’s the sun’s UV rays – both UVA and UVB rays that are responsible for damage to the skin over both the short and longer term.
The shorter UVB rays (wavelength between 290 and 320 nm) penetrate just to the epidermis (the top layer of skin) and are responsible primarily for Burning. UVA rays (wavelength between 320 and 400 nm) are composed of two types – UVA short (320 – 340 nm; UVA-II) and UVA long (340-400 nm; UVA-I).
Short UVA rays, like UVB rays, penetrate into the Epidermis. But long UVA rays penetrate deeper into the Dermis where they contribute to Aging (wrinkles, age spots, leather skin as well as some types of skin cancers).
Most sunscreens contain adequate protection from UVB rays. Since it is not yet mandatory in the US or Canada for manufacturers to rate the UVA protection capabilities of a sunscreen it’s up to us to do our homework.
When we choose a broad spectrum UVA/UVB blocking sunscreen it’s important to ensure that the UVA filter it contains is protecting against the whole spectrum of UVA rays.
Here is a breakdown of some of the more effective and widely used UVA filters and the range of protection that they offer:
While some studies caution us against the use of chemical sunscreens, others maintain that they deliver superior protection in more cosmetically elegant formulations than those of physical sunscreens. The choice is up to you, but here are my picks for sunscreens that will deliver protection across the UVA and UVB spectrum:

Here are my top picks with regards to the above UVA filters:
